Platelet-Rich Fibrin
Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) is a natural product that is made from a small sample of the patient's own blood. It is created by isolating and concentrating platelets, which are tiny cells that are essential for healing and repairing damaged tissue. Platelets contain growth factors, which are proteins that stimulate the growth of new cells and help repair damaged tissue. While you may have heard of platelet-rich plasma (PRP), PRF is a more advanced version of the technology with a higher concentration of platelets and growth factors.
PRF offers many benefits including a faster healing time and reduction of pain and swelling.
PRF is used in many fields of medicine such as
facial esthetics, dermatology, and orthopedics.
Because PRF is made from your own blood,
it is very safe to use and there is very little risk of any adverse reaction. Dr. Estrin uses PRF with almost all of his procedures including pocket reduction, bone grafting, extractions, and gum grafting. Dr. Estrin is also trained in the new extended PRF which can be used as an alternative to taking gum tissue from your palate. Dr. Estrin has several publications on this topic and enjoys training other dentists on different ways to use PRF in all periodontal procedures.
